The Covid 19 pandemic constitutes a marvelous remarkable threat to the world currently touching 213 countries and territories with a reported total of 9,051,535c confirmed cases and a death toll of 470,795 deaths of the coronavirus covid-19,that originated in Wuhan, China;

In Rwanda, in order to fight against covid-19, many measures have been put in
place and health practitioners are doing all their best to win the battle against the
outrageous virus, but help is needed and this is where the youth volunteers
comes in;

The Youth which works under a volunteer group called, ‘’ Rwanda Youth
Volunteers in Community Policing’’, is an outstanding group that was created in
2013 and is formed of students, new graduates and entrepreneurs;

The program started up with 50 members but in the meantime, they consists of
more than 380,000 youth volunteers, and Back in the days, they started up with a
focus of creating awareness on the fight against malnutrition, human and drug
trafficking, and now they have shifted their efforts on fighting and eradicating the
new covid-19;

Dressed in a luminous yellow vest, Rwanda Youth volunteers are stationed
everywhere in Rwanda mainly in public places helping health practitioners in this
fight against our common enemy;

Youth Volunteers stationed on Kigali Streets, market entrances, and bus stations
are always teaching everyone passing by how to correctly wear a face mask,
creating an awareness on the benefits of wearing masks as a must-do factor in
avoiding the spread against the deadly pandemic virus to one another;

In the Markets, where there is a big crowd of vendors and sellers, the Youth
volunteers can be easily found circulating continuously telling all people around
to wear masks, wash hands regularly as well as practicing social distancing in order to avoid spreading the virus;

As of Sunday, June 21, 2020, the number of coronavirus cases in Rwanda havei ncreased up to 728 reported cases nationally,with 367 active cases, 359 recovered cases and 2 deaths;

The role of the youth volunteers can’t be ignored hence they interact with people
daily and it’s a big contribution to the country in this fight, since they do a free service without waiting for a reward and this helps the government in its fight against the virus by saving up money which would had been used to recruit some helping hands so they are also vital to Rwanda’s economy as well as playing a big role in its Social Health welfare;

Their role in fighting against covid-19 can be visibly seen at the main entrances in
different market places in Kigali, like in the Modern Kabeza Market, where youth
volunteers stands at the entrance ensuring that anyone who enters properly
wears a face mask, and washes hands correctly with hygienic soap available at
the market gates;

The youth volunteers plays a big role in the eradication of the virus in the
transport industry, since they are stationed at all Rwanda’s bus stations,
sensualizing all the people to wash and sanitize hands before boarding a bus,
also creating an awareness on avoiding the touch of noses, mouths and eyes
hence fighting against the spread of covid-19 on the fastest way of its spread,
the transport industry;

Their preventive awareness message is a reminder to the people who don’t
usually listen Television, radio or watch the health instructions available on
Rwanda’s Health media platforms, hence they explain health guidelines in a polite
voice and in a language, everybody knows well;

There are more than 5,000 youth volunteers deployed across the country in this
fight against Covid-19 which clearly shows the inspirationally motivating
engagement of the youth in the battle against covid-19 in Rwanda;
Covid-19 is a deadly disease that have caused many deaths globally and affected
the global economic welfare, So we as the community need to take preventive
measures and emergency responses as great as taught by our youth volunteers
and all the Health practitioners in order win this fight against our common enemy,
the deadly coronavirus;

If we unite our forces, listen and follow all World Health Organization’s rules and preventive measures like wearing face masks everywhere, washing hands and
practicing social distancing, it’s obvious that these hard times will end soon, and
Rwanda will never forget the hard and great work done by the Rwanda Youth
Volunteers.
